> > > > >
To Friends of Friends, From Dr. Mark LaPorta, North Miami, FL: I am preparing to write a book about HEALING EXPERIENCES. Please help with personal knowledge and experience. Please forward to friends of friends, family and colleagues, as you feel appropriate. Thank you. v1.8
Your participation, submissions; advice, and suggestions are needed, invited and valued.
Although I am a primary care physician (Internal Medicine, Fellow of the American College of Physicians) by training and temperament, I have over the last few years found that the current medical model of tests and "treatments" and "a pill for an ill" leaves a lot to be desired to say the least. The better way of healing already exists; it is inside each and every one of us, waiting to be tapped.
Heres what Im looking for: "Miracles". Recovery of illnesses or any conditions physical or mental, emotional or social -- through spiritual experience of any kind, prayer, meditation, yoga, chanting, education, philosophy, discipline, Kabbalah, breathing, contemplation, 12-steps, PDM, and anything else I missed.
The kind of action on your part that could only come from something new happening inside, an evolution of thought or understanding. Or maybe it didnt seem like a miracle at the time. Maybe it was an expected even promisedyet still hard-to-believe result of your effort. (Like "the Promises" in the 12-step programs.)
Did a new attitude change a behavior which then changed a condition? Alone? With help? Mentored or sponsored? Formally validated (or not)? Did you discover a healing ability that you didnt know you had? Did you develop it? Have you shared it?
Perhaps funds became available as a result of your practice and allowed you to have a problem fixed.
Maybe a revelation about how to handle a problem, even including "orthodox" (sic) medical treatments or other alternative treatments. Maybe the treatment for a problem took totally unexpected positive turns. Maybe the result was so much better than expected.
New discipline? New understanding? Explainable wholly or in part, or inexplicable, God, the Universe, cause or effect, gods, religion, white light, the commonplace, the obvious or notthe unusual. Everything. Whoa.
Blood pressure, weight, diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune disease or immune dysfunctions, endocrine disease, acute or chronic infections; the mundane to the sublime
Making surgery unnecessary, heart disease, cancer remission, neoplasm, personality issues, involutional melancholia, stress, codependence, dyslexia, sociopathy, schizophrenia, mania/bipolar depression, ADD, OCD, ODD, autism, "Aspergers", near-death experiences, Tourettes, unknown illnesses, anxiety, guilt/shame, neurological illness or dysfunction, Parkinsonism, paralysis, skin disease, acne or psoriasis, debility of any kind, learning disorder, carpal tunnel, writers cramp, writers block, amnesia, premature aging, unexpectedly rapid surgical recovery, fears, chronic pain, family re-alignment, generally improved athletic or artistic performance.
Shamanism, science of mind, Christian Science. It wasnt supposed to happen "I couldnt imagine it" but it did. Big or little. Fast or slow. Understood or not. Mystical or "vanilla".
Even "Dis-health".
Anything.(*)
There are no boundaries here. The list is limitless, the possibilities endless.
This is only a start.

This is still at the very early stage. If this book is published, I am committed to using the funds to further this research and dissemination, rather than for personal gain.
FYI: I am nonpartisan, and this project will attempt to be neutral from politics, institutions, denomination, etc.; this is a serious effort, NOT "Hollywood".
Lastly, please forgive me in advance if I send this to you again in the near future while Im contacting so many friends and acquaintances, and as it evolves.

PASS IT ON!
The more the better.
If you know me personally, please mention that in your forward.
It apparently takes literally hundreds of e-mails outbound to come upon a story response.
Idea just in: check this with Snopes or Urban Legend, if you will.
Thank you for reading this.

What happened? What did you do?
What did you learn? What was healed? How did you change?
How have you stayed whole? Who did you tell? Did you realize it at the time?
Are there mysteries involved?

Albert Einstein:
"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge."
And: "There are two ways to live your life - one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle."
Sign hanging in Einstein's office at Princeton "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

The Divided Mind
This is possibly one of the most important books of the era, and not only with regards to health-care and medicine.
I just bought these books; by John Sarno MD, a senior Director of Rehab at NYU, an empirical clinician of the old school. I find it stunning, important, essential, inspiring, and legitimate. This approach could revolutionize healthcare, but the author won't present it that way. |

I spoke to Dr. Sarno last week. He is a very "old fashioned" empirical clinician, and shoots straight from the hip. Remember when a diagnosis, finding, or "clinical correlation" used to mean something? When you could tell the patient -- or claimant -- the whole truth and nothing but? Dr. Sarno exposits and proposes a clearly demonstrable mechanism to explain Tension Myositis Syndrome ("TMS"), the cause of much otherwise unexplainable muscle -- and many other pains wherein the mind affects the body. Personally and professionally, I think that this is only the beginning of a new era of legitimate mind-body practice.
I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. Compassion is a big part of the answer of cure, and that doesn't mean MORE medicine. It means more honest medicine. The truth will set us free, each and every one.
Look into it.
